Typical Saturday

The laundry

is almost done.

One car has been vacuumed and the other washed.  Now we need to flip-flop

those chores.

Generally I try to have a lot of these things done on Friday but I worked at the new library  that day, unpacking items that had been moved.

This is the room that had all the boxes in last week's pictures.  All the extra empty boxes have been moved to another area.

What you see next is part of the reference room.  Where are the missing books?

Here they are on the cart that went back and forth and forth and back MANY times last week as the inventory of over 10,000 items was finalized.

Did the inventory turn out with everything accounted for?  Of course, not!    But then we have not done a complete inventory in over ten years.  We show many missing items but glancing over the list, we see a variety of reasons.  Some were given away years ago but never deleted from the system.  Some were originally added to the system from a card catalog but never actually matched with a book.  Some have not been returned by patrons.  And the last "some" are new books that were in-process and not on the shelves.   So our library workers will be working on these lists for more than a few weeks as we endeavor to find those MIA.

Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it?  Luke 15:8

 - - - which reminds me - - - it's time to get back to the housework and vacuum the den  . . . . .

Betwixt and Between

Here are the new library shelves at our church's new location.  Aren't they beautiful?  We ordered them from Demco.

This is the view looking out to our welcome center desk.  The "halo" lighting design over the desk is beautiful as is the view out the windows on the back wall.

Our library workers have this great area with very comfortable chairs.

This is the library director's office which is where I will be working.

On the other end of this room - - to the left of the chair and to the left of the workers chairs, is this nice kitchenette area.

Perhaps you can see the refrigerator below the microwave.

We will start moving books on September 1.  Our first church service in this building is September 19.  Until then, we look more like this at our current location!

A/C Fixed

Hooray - - - the A/C is running again - - and has been running now non-stop since 4:30.  It had gotten up to 86 inside the house by the time the sun hit the "other side" of the house.

The problem was a spider broke the contact in or to the compressor and when it did, it broke the spider!  We have never had that happen before but now we know what to check again if there is a similar problem.  It was well worth the service call and 1/2 hour labor.  I compare that to the price of a new unit or a replacement part to fix the A/C.

My prayer had been that it would be an economical solution so $90 was quite acceptable especially when the serviceman drives from Dayton - - about 20 miles away.  They are the ones who installed our Lennox unit.  We will probably use them again when we need to replace our current furnace and or A/C.  We have been very pleased with the performance of our Lennox and also of their prompt service.

Thanks for your concern. - - - And thanks to the discussion a few weeks ago about comment moderation rather than password.  I really like that better, too!  Now I know when there are new comments and you all don't have to type a password.

Hot

This is the temperature and humidity INSIDE the house right now.  That is because we have another problem with the A/C unit.  Considering the unit is 14 years old, I guess the repairman may be our best friend until we absolutely have to invest in a new one - - - A/C not repairman.

The temperature outside is 97 with a heat index of 103 so I guess 81 inside is not too bad.  Perhaps these are the reason.

We are pretty well shaded on most sides of our house.   Until then, I am relaxing like some others around here.

We have gotten so spoiled with our climate controlled environments.  However, one thing I have discovered is when it is this hot, it really takes away your appetite.  Guess we could use this as a weight loss program - - - nah!

Cleaning - - - Packing

I have saved about anything and everything over the years - - - because it can always be used again for something!  Well, I guess I have finally gotten to a different stage in my life because if I'm not using it, I want it GONE.  Plus, we need to empty out some of our basement.  If not, the kids will get to do it one day.  Ha. Ha.

The basement is my idea and on my schedule.  However, at my employment with the church library, we are working a plan with a definite timetable.  Our library will move the first full week in September. Currently the cabinets are emptied in one storeroom and already some boxes are packed.  The books will be packed September 1 & 2.  I'll give you more updates and pictures when that happens.

The cardboard boxes are empty at this point but the crates are packed and have already been moved. . . . . and that's all for tonight.  I did read everyone's blog but don't have time for comments until about Thursday . . . .

Peppy & Upbeat? Not always.

When you are almost 60 years old, not every day is picture perfect.  In fact you can have a few gray days.  This picture was taken at 1 p.m. on Saturday.  It was so overcast that our security lamp came on in the middle of the day!

I'm not saying the weather didn't play a factor but I felt rotten until mid-afternoon.  The main culprit was the headache that began before I woke up.  My severe dry eye syndrome will occasionally cause a headache to begin in my eyes.  Aspirin will keep me moving but it makes for an uphill day.

A headache turns my schedule upside down but when I finally quit for a while - - take one extra strength aspirin and a short nap . . . . 

 . . often I can be up and about again doing my Saturday tasks.  The following work week goes so much smoother when I complete my list on the weekend.

One thing I had planned for the day was to make this.

Yes, I know it's the middle of summer but homemade vegetable beef sounded good and we're inside an air-conditioned house!  This is quite healthy.  I cooked the beef in V-8 juice.  What you don't see is a bunch of chopped celery and onions in the broth.  The macaroni is Barilla in the yellow box.  It is made from various grains.

The day got better as it progressed - - ending with being treated for dinner at Red Lobster by our son-in-law's parents and grandmother.  I think I have mentioned before that when our daughter married, we not only got a wonderful son-in-law but also some new friends.

Today we "partied" with some older friends.  There was an open house for someone in our church who turned ninety this weekend.  She is so sweet - - - very active and funny, too.  She says she has "some-timers" because sometimes she remembers and sometimes she doesn't!  A gathering like today reflects how blessed we are with friends.

Shepherd's Heart

I'll not post what I am doing today - - but will do that tomorrow.  Today, I will link you to our younger daughter's blog that she wrote yesterday, her last day of work as a daycare director. . . . a difficult day for her because she has such a tender, loving heart for those God puts in her path.  She very eloquently expressed that in her post.  Her leadership there has been successful because she has reflected the Shepherd Heart of our Precious Lord.  Her future as a teacher excites her  - - - but it is always hard to say good-bye when we go a new direction in the road map of life.

Go ye therefore and teach . . . . . Matthew 28:19a
